ABSTRACT:

We have demonstrate a 140 dB dynamic range CMOS image sensors for scientific imaging applications. The architecture utilizes a unique pixel level adaptive linear-logarthmic readout electronics to adjust the imager readout to the scene illumination. The imager has been used for lensless imaging of micron sized clusters of nanoparticles, and for imaging of micron sized beads in fiber based sensor arrays. This opens the door for a single chip optical imaging apparatus for imaging of fluoroscently labeled biomaterials like cells, bacteria and viruses.

The next step in this project is to reduce the pixel size and the dark current for low light and high resolution imaging.
